The Ultimate HONOR MagicBook Pro Review

by Minnie Elwood

A few months ago, at IFA 2020, Honor officially released a range of products under its MagicBook laptop line. However, one of these products, the Honor MagicBook Pro Ryzen-powered laptop seems to provide the best of both worlds. The Mac-inspired laptop offers the features attainable in high-end laptops, but at a wallet-friendly cost. It seems to provide the quintessential high-end experience of Apple’s MacBook at one-third of the price.

The HONOR MagicBook Pro offers a premium aluminum chassis and a slim design. This, among many other exciting features, ensures that the laptop more than just an average laptop. In this article, we will be giving an in-depth review of the MagicBook Pro.

Features of the MagicBook Pro

Design and Build

Honor’s MagicBook Pro offers a premium aluminum chassis and a slim design. It has evolved from its flashy finish and instead, offers a Space Grey finish with an “HONOR” logo at the top which is also in grey. The restraint shown by Honor in sticking to a less flashy or “boring” finish is something many people will appreciate in this laptop.

The slim bezels of the laptop ensure that the overall frame is similar to that of a 15-inch model even though the laptop has a 16.1-inch display and is slightly heavy at 1.7kg. Very few laptops are as potable as the MagicBook Pro.

The laptop also has a full-size, backlit keyboard that feels comfortable typing on. One of the keyboard keys houses the 1MP webcam because the screen takes up 90% of the laptop, making it impossible to place the webcam in its traditional position. The only other option would have been to remove the webcam completely from the laptop.

Display

Well, the display of the MagicBook is a bit disappointing. Although the 1920×1080 IPS panel is nice with vivid colors and good viewing angles for watching Netflix or browsing the internet, it still isn’t good enough to attract gamers or pro creators. If Honor wants to attract these people, they would have to do better with their display. Other than that, the display is decent enough.

Software

The MagicBook Pro runs on Windows 10 despite the US trade ban. This means that you can still get all the features, apps, and software that are available on Windows 10 laptops. The laptop has a Magic Link tech which links itself with a compatible smartphone from either Honor or Huawei.

Battery

The battery life of the MagicBook is one of its strongest features. Honor boasts of video playback of 11 hours. This is quite interesting as the laptop has an impressive battery life even with the big display. The fast charging tech means you can charge up to 50% within 30 minutes.

Conclusion

The MagicBook Pro is definitely worth the cost. With the fantastic Ryzen 4600H processor, the laptop is really fast. However, it doesn’t quite deliver the top-tier performance and accuracy for gamers or pro creators. However, if you need a laptop for studying, light gaming, and office work, the MagicBook Pro is a good bargain.
