Hello everyone, it’s my pleasure to introduce myself. My name is Priya Bansal. I am a student of btech in computer science engineering with specialization in oil and gas informatics. I am an understudy of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Dehradun. I am going to tell you little bit about my interest, hobby, and goals. My area of interest is basketball and studying math. I am a state level basketball player. I enjoy reading, studying, surfing internet, and painting. I am a keen observer. My major goal is to become a successful engineer and to serve the company with all my talent and skill. My strengths are I am an optimistic and friendly person. I am punctual at my work. I am a quick learner. Self motivation and self confidence is the key to my success. My ethic is “I never neglect an opportunity for my improvement”. Here, at UPES we had been given design thinking as a subject to increase the imaginative and innovative mind in young engineer.
Design thinking for me is idea or methodology for solving the current problems. A problem can be solved by inventing new products for the benefit of the society. Design Thinking gives an answer based way to deal with taking care of issues. Design thinking process is to get an empathic understanding of the issue you are endeavoring to settle. Design thinking in engineering sector is to engender design thinking skills in students. Design thinking is used by colleges as a way to instruct students on the phases of design, and to help develop innovative solutions to existing problems.
The five phases of design thinking are: discover, define, develop, deliver, ilerate.
Phase 1: Discover needs and challenges of those who will use your design
Phase 2: Define the core problem
Phase 3: Develop innovative solution concepts
Phase 4: Deliver prototypes of a potential solution
Phase 5: Iterate (test and revise) your potential solution
During the define stage, you put together the information you have created and gathered during the discover stage. You will analyses your observations and synthesis then in order to define the core problems that you and your team have identified up to this point. You should seek to define the problem as a problem statement.
As Jane Chen has a mission to design and bring to market healthcare technologies for the developing world, starting with the infant warmer. For that she needed to work harder, to focus on her aim. She surveyed many developing countries, collected data and had a clear-cut idea of what actually she wanted. The Define stage will help the designers in your team gather great ideas to establish features, functions, and any other elements that will allow them to solve the problems.
The very question I would like to ask Jane Chen, it would be how did she think of baby warmers? What was the source of her initial thought about the needs of premature babies?
